SHL Medical to Build New Plant in South Carolina

Many manufacturers work on a global scale, having plants located in numerous countries can make producing the same products, meeting the same regulations, and achieving the same quality standards a challenge. An enterprise labeling solution and a fully integrated system can help make this a little easier. SLH Medical’s new manufacturing plant in South Carolina will surely benefit from a streamlined system when production launches in 2024.

SHL Medical is a “world-leading solutions provider in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced medical delivery devices, such as autoinjectors, pen injectors, advanced inhalers, and wearable drug delivery systems.” They also provide final product assembly, labeling, and packaging service to many leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies.  They have locations in Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United States. While SHL doesn’t manufacture pharmaceutical drugs, they ensure the method in which many injectable drugs are used is efficient and compliant with all regulatory entities. They also handle the packaging and labeling for a multitude of these companies.

Due to growing market demand, and the desire to further extend production into the U.S., SHL Medical has broken ground on a new facility in North Charleston, South Carolina.  The new site is “approximately 270,000 square feet” and will create an estimated 165 local jobs starting in 2024. “The new site will be an advanced facility with medical device injection molding and fully automated assembly capabilities. Currently, final assembly, labeling, and packaging operations will stay in Deerfield, Florida. This will further enhance SHL’s offering of comprehensive services to its partners.

Pragmatyxs can help identify an enterprise labeling solution that provides manufacturers with standards for implementing labeling initiatives, provides changes and modifications from a central labeling location, and then allows for the dissemination of those changes rapidly into production.  This holistic approach becomes vital with locations throughout the globe and facilities having only portions of the entire manufacturing process.  Enterprise labeling also provides flexibility, consistency, and continuity for any labeling requirements; for pharmaceutical and biotech products, this is a must-have.
