Here are some examples of the requirements for labeling in Food & Beverage
The FDA’s Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA), aimed at preventing food contamination across every step of the supply chain, including use of imports and exports across international boundaries. FSMA also gives the FDA authority to order a mandatory recall of product
Genetic Modified Foods (GMO) labeling law which is being developed by the USDA, has been set to go into effect July 2018, but is still under review for a final decision. This law would require food companies to have certain labels -i.e. QR codes- to disclose GMO ingredients. QR codes are a two-dimensional barcode consisting of a black and white pixel pattern which allows to encode up to a few hundred characters. Today’s smartphones and tablets can recognize and decode them exceptionally fast – it’s not surprising that QR stands for Quick Response
From a regulatory standpoint, there’s more focus now on food & beverage than ever before. And it affects everyone from farmers and manufacturers to co-packers, and distributors, right down to the grocers and consumers themselves. The Key to being compliant and making it an easy transition with these new mandates and standards relies on your current labeling solution. We still see successful manufacturers that remain reliant on separate, isolated labeling solutions at individual sites and plants. This is an opportunity for error with undisciplined labeling efforts, especially for regulatory and compliance teams that need visibility into the labels to make sure they’re marked correctly for allergens, GMO ingredients, or country-specific regulations. A single, centralized/standardized labeling solution, implemented and supported across an organization, brings labeling under one platform. This improves labeling accuracy and tracking with the ability to monitor, manage and control all the labeling in the enterprise and your supply chain. Furthermore, when regulations change, which they will, you now have one simplified integrated solution that can be updated efficiently and quickly to meet the changing demands.
